A Bit About Jane O'Brien
Psychotherapist & Author in London
I am Jane O'Brien, an Irish-American psychotherapist & author. Having lived in four different countries, I have been settled in London for over 30 years.
I have had a long career in personal development facilitating growth and progress for my clients. I studied Psychosynthesis, an approach to psychological health rooted in the work of Freud and developed by Italian psychiatrist, Dr Roberto Assagioli.
In 1983, I began my training in Psychosynthesis in Dublin. After that, I continued in London qualifying first as a Counsellor in 1988 at the Institute of Psychosynthesis. Moreover, I earned my Masters Degree in Psychotherapy from the University of East London in association with the Psychosynthesis Trust. (Formerly Psychosynthesis & Education Trust)
British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
I am a senior accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and was first accredited in 1990. In addition, I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a founder member of the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP).
I have done a monthly phone-in programme on London Talkback Radio as a radio counsellor. Moreover, I appeared on Health Matters, a television programme with Ruby Wax. I have worked on help-lines following television programmes with disturbing content. Similarly, in the early 1990s, I worked on the Supportive Care Team in Hammersmith Hospital with cancer patients and dying patients. In addition, I have also been a trainer for the Institute for the Healing of Racism and have developed and run a variety of workshops for groups of people interested in personal development.
What else have I done?

In 1983, I published my first book "The Magic of Tofu" in the UK. At that time, I was teaching natural food cooking classes to help people improve their health.
I have had a wide range of experiences, both joyful and horrific, about which I have written in my autobiography, Dancing in the Heart of Life. My book includes sections enabling the reader to explore for themselves many of life’s issues. Meanwhile, I continue to write and publish.
I have had many years of experience working as a psychotherapist in London in private practice with people who have a variety of issues that they wish to better understand. I also work with trainee counsellors and clients through employee assistance and with privately insured clients.
