What if You Don’t Even Know the Right Questions?

Many of us are asking questions about our lives.

Are we doing the ‘right’ thing?  Are we in the ‘right’ relationship? Have we chosen the ‘best’ career for ourselves? All of these questions are ones that can be answered with a yes or a no, but does a yes or no answer really help? Maybe we first need to admit that we don’t know.  That is very difficult for some because we have been taught for years that we are expected to know the answers.  Especially when we are embarking on something new we very often don’t even know the questions to ask.

Is there only one ‘right’ and several ‘wrong’ things that we might be doing?  What makes anything ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ in our terms? Is everything either black or white or are their shades of grey?  Life is short and it is difficult and we struggle to understand and make the best of what we have been given.  We sometimes simply ‘fall’ into careers, relationships, even core beliefs based on our history, our culture, what our parents and peers have told us and our own inner thoughts and feelings, many of which we don’t even express to ourselves.

Maybe we need to look at a whole different range of questions such as:

  • What is my purpose in being here on Earth in this place, at this time, with these relationships?
  • What am I here to do?
  • How can I align myself with my soul’s purpose?
  • How will I know if I am on a path that suits me?
  • Can I believe that I am here in this place at this time for good reason?
  • What would my life be like if I could believe that?
  • What am I learning from my work, my life, my relationships, my thoughts, prejudices, beliefs?
  • How can I be more aware of my behaviour and its impact on others?
  • Have I ever considered my impact and if my loved ones perceive me as loving and caring or something other than that?
  • How would I feel if I knew that I came across differently from the way I would like to present myself?
  • Is there only ever ONE right relationship?
  • Could there be many of different types?
  • How can I best grow through my experiences and become a more fulfilled person?
  • How much do I love and care for others, for nature, for the planet, for art, for music, for beauty, for health and healing and most importantly for myself?
  • How do I make meaning of my experiences in order to understand them and their purpose and mine better?
  • For my short time on earth, how can I best use what I have so that when I get to my death bed, I won’t be saying, “I wish I had and I regret…”

How are you now, having thought about these questions?
